Code Refresh

Envisioning the next version of Richmond

Code Refresh

Re-write of the zoning ordinance

An overhaul of an outdated zoning code to meet the needs of Richmonders today, tomorrow, and for the next generation.

The Richmond Code Refresh is a comprehensive update to the city's zoning ordinance aimed at reshaping what can be built across Richmond. This initiative is part of the city's effort to align with the Richmond 300 Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2020, which seeks to guide growth and development in a sustainable manner. The process involves reducing the number of zoning districts from 30 to 23, introducing new zoning maps, and establishing draft development standards. Community engagement is encouraged through open houses, allowing residents to weigh in on the proposed changes.
